April, National Parkinson’s Month
Because April is National Parkinson’s Month, the best way to spread awareness is to talk about Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s is a progressive nervous system disease that affects movement. The disease is caused by the lack of dopamine neurons in the brain. The dopamine neurons play an important role in so many different brain functions, including voluntary movements and behavior processes such as mood, addictions and stress. The lack of these dopamine neurons is caused by brain cells gradually breaking down and dying. While the cause of Parkinson’s is unknown, there are several risk factors that are believed to contribute to the development of the disease.

What Is Tabata Training?
The idea of Tabata came from Japanese scientist Dr. Izumi Tabata, and a team of researchers from the National Institute of Fitness in Tokyo. Another form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), Tabata is a very short but concentrated way of working out. You’re only exercising for four minutes at a time, but they’re a hard four minutes, which is why it’s effective.

Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome, Also Known As “Shin Splints”
Medial tibial stress syndrome, also known as MTSS and more commonly known as “shin splints,” is an orthopedic injury caused by repetitive stresses applied to the anteromedial aspect of the lower leg. There are multiple, progressive stages of MTSS that patients can experience if they refrain from seeking treatment and rehabilitation. Associated pain originates from the posteromedial tibial border and radiates as stress is continuously forced upon the medial aspect of the tibia.
