Workout smarter with wearable technology

It’s easy to get lost in the data— here are a few helpful tips to consider when using your wearable technology.

  1. Heartrate zone—working out in different heartrate zones require different energy systems. For example, you use your fat burning system when working at 50% to 70% of your MHR. This accomplished when doing lower intensity workouts for longer durations.
  2. Use your technology to set and obtain goals! Weather its Apple Watch fitness points or MyZone Effort Points, challenge yourself by setting and hitting the prescribed daily, weekly, or monthly fitness point goals based on your age and fitness level. This will provide accountability and can help you stick to a consistent exercise routine.
  3. Beware of overtraining—Training at too high of an intensity for an extended period of time can lead to burnout or overtraining. Your body needs recovery days in order to rebuild and get fitter. Spending too much time in the red zone or over 85% of your MHR may lead to overtraining and inhibit desired results.
  4. Program your workouts with a purpose! The information and data gained from your fitness tracker can be utilized by you and your trainer to program workouts that are appropriate for your fitness level and goals. Your physiological response to exercise can be better monitored with a fitness tracker and exercise intensity can then be adjusted to improve your overall fitness.
